FDC SeaTac in the News - 32-year sentence for beating of SeaTac prison guard

32-year sentence for beating of SeaTac prison guard

by KING 5 News and Associated Press

SEATTLE - A man who beat a federal prison guard with a pipe has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

The U.S. attorney's office in Seattle says the guard suffered severe head wounds, nearly died, and likely will never return to work after the January 2012 attack at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac.

Twenty-two-year-old Sabir Shabazz was in federal custody on sex trafficking charges related to the prostitution of two 13-year-old girls when he and another inmate attacked the guard. Other inmates intervened and likely saved the guard's life.

U.S. District Judge James Robart issued the sentence.
